Looking Back: No. 2 Provost Company at War

The Canadian Military Police Association is pleased to bring you a two-part historical account of No. 2 Provost Company during the Second World War—written by former unit commander H. C. (Chris) Forbes—which was originally published in The Quarterly magazine of the RCMP in the mid-1980s.

Forbes joined No. 1 Provost Company as a RCMP volunteer in 1939 and was later commissioned in the Canadian Provost Corps. He commanded No. 2 Provost Company from March to November 1944 and was later promoted to Major and appointed Assistant Provost Marshal of the 2nd Canadian Division. After the war, Forbes returned to the RCMP and finished his career with that force at the rank of superintendent.

The CMPA is gratefully to the Board of Trustees of The Quarterly, which is now published by the RCMP Veterans' Association, for granting permission to republish both parts of this article on our website. Christopher Forbes' piece is an important part of the written historical record of the Canadian Provost Corps and its modern-day successor, the Military Police Branch of the Canadian Armed Forces.

New PT Clothing at CMPA Kit Shop

The CMPA Kit shop has acquired new PT clothing as the previous gear was getting outdated and stock was no longer available

We have selected the Surge Activewear line of clothing. Surge Activewear is a Canadian Company that provides clothing to the Canadian Army Run, Ottawa Race Weekend, RCAF Run, Navy Bike Ride, and the Montreal Marathon, to name a few.

These shirts come in both short- and long-sleeve versions, include the Canadian MP Logo on chest, and are available in two colour styles: red with black stripes, and black with red stripes. A lined hoodie is also available in both colour schemes, as well as running gloves (black only). All clothing is available with additional wording for CFMPA staff on the back, for an extra charge (black with red stripe version - Canadian MP Logo on chest).
