Changes to the CMPA Membership and Departure Gift by-laws now make it easier to become and remain a member in good standing of the CMPA, and be eligible for a departure gift.
Here is a step-by-step guideline to these changes.
We have made this easier by redefining and opening up the membership categories, eliminating the annual renewal/dues requirement for ordinary members and adopting a lifetime membership model instead. The first step in obtaining a departure gift is to be a member in good standing.
Please readBy-Law 1- Membership for further details. In short, ordinary membership is open to anyone who is currently serving as a member of the CAF Military Police Branch (Regular or Reserve component), and anyone who previously served in this branch or any of its antecedents (i.e., CAF Security Branch, Canadian Provost Corps, Air Force Police, Naval Regulating Branch) and was honourably released from military service. Updated definitions for honourary and associate members can be found in By-Law 1.
Any person who previously received a CMPA departure gift or Retired MP credentials will become a lifetime ordinary member upon application at no further cost. You may be requested to provide a photograph of your departure gift or retired credentials.
Any person who previously paid annual membership dues for at least five consecutive years may become a lifetime ordinary member upon application at no further cost. Please note that the Membership Director may require your assistance to determine when you paid.
Any former ordinary member who either missed annual payments or paid their dues sporadically is considered to be delinquent in their dues (i.e., NOT in good standing). In order to become a lifetime ordinary member in good standing you must pay your delinquent annual dues up to a maximum of five years ($125).
Any eligible person who wishes to become an ordinary member for the first time can pay a one-time fee of $250 for lifetime membership.
New graduates of the MP QL3 and MPOC courses will receive a discount of $50 toward lifetime ordinary membership. This offer is valid for one year beginning on the course graduation date. Discount codes can be obtained from CFMPA course staff. CFMPA staff can request a discount code for an entire course by email to [email protected].
On the rear of all Lifetime Membership cards will be a code to obtain a discount from the MP Kit Shop.
Membership applications are available from the CMPA website (online form) and payments can be made online via the MP Kit Shop.
All members of the CMPA are entitled to a once in a lifetime departure gift, at no cost, when leaving the MP Branch. CMPA ordinary member’s who were issued a MP Badge and meet all the requirements will receive their MP Badge mounted in plastic (please note that the details of which are currently under negotiation and will be published once known). Non-credentialed MP and other CMPA members will receive a gift approved by the CMPA Executive.
The departure gift is only given to CMPA members in good standing when they initially depart the CAF/DND, and is meant to be given at a Depart with Dignity Ceremony or similar even whenever possible. Members who re-enrol in the CAF and retire a second time are not eligible for another free gift.
The first step in this process is to ensure you are a member in good standing. Applications will not be processed if you have outstanding fees.
The next step is to accurately complete the CMPA Departure Gift Form and send it to [email protected]. It must be typed and accurate. Handwritten submissions will not be entertained.
