The CMPA is pleased to report that our MP Wallet Badge Departure Memento Program has resumed with modifications that meet new security requirements as detailed by the Canadian Forces Provost Marshal. GeneralIn recognition of their service, at the time of release or retirement from the Canadian Armed Forces members of the Canadian Forces Military Police may have their MP Wallet Badge returned to them as a departure memento to commemorate their service. This is available to any MP who has been issued a MP Wallet Badge providing they meet certain criteria set by the Canadian Forces Provost Marshal. (NOTE: CMPA Members who had not been issued an MP Wallet Badge may be entitled to a different type of Departure Memento. See CMPA Bylaw 5 for more information.) An important change to our past policies is that the MP need not be a member of the Canadian Military Police Association (CMPA) to receive this memento; however, members of the CMPA will continue to receive the memento free of charge. MP who are not members of the CMPA may choose to receive the memento by purchasing it themselves. PricingThe memento is currently priced at $225 plus taxes and includes all shipping. Shipping includes from CMPA to the company for production, return from the company to CMPA and from CMPA to the MP. This cost is waived for members of the Canadian Military Police Association in good standing entitled to a Departure Memento as per CMPA Bylaw 5. Models AvailableThere are four models available to select from. They are all wedge shaped with the MP Badge mounted centrally and gold lettering but either have a red background or a clear background with a red accent. They are either designed to stand upright or lay flat. You will be asked which model you wish for in Step 3 below. Please see the photos below. Following this process will help ensure departing MP receive a high-quality memento of their service. Step 1 – The first step is for the requesting individual to submit form DND 6011 through their Chain of Command. This is an official DND form used to request authorization for the member’s MP Wallet Badge to be released to CMPA. This step should be completed a minimum of 45 days in advance of release. Personnel who are already released may obtain a copy of this form, along with instructions on submitting it, from the CMPA Departure Gift Coordinator. Step 2 – If CF MP Gp HQ approves the request, they will inform the CMPA Departure Gift Coordinator and provide CMPA with the member’s contact information (It is very important that accurate post release contact information be provided so that CMPA can contact the requestor should the process continue post release.) If the request is not approved, CF MP Gp HQ will contact the requestor directly. Step 3 - Using the information provided on form DND 6011, the CMPA Departure Gift Coordinator will contact the requester and provide a CMPA e-form for the requester to select the mounting style that is desired and to detail the exact lettering to be printed on the mount. If required, a limited repair to the badge’s enamel lettering is available for approximately $10 (this is not free to CMPA Members; however, CMPA members may use their membership discount code). The form will confirm the address where to mail the MP Badge once it is completed. Please provide a valid Canada Post Mailing Address. If any payment is needed, the CMPA Kit Shop will email the invoice that is payable online. The CMPA does not accept cheques, cash or electronic transfers for Departure Mementos. Once payment is received, or free entitlement confirmed, CMPA will contact CF MP Gp HQ and request your MP Badge. Step 4 – CMPA will engage the wedge supplier to produce the mount. The company will produce an electronic “Proof” image of the mount which will be emailed to the requestor for approval. It is especially important that the proof is inspected for any errors, such as incorrect style, dates, or misspellings. If there is an error, the proof must be returned to CMPA Departure Gift Coordinator with the corrections that are required, and the proof will be redone. The proof should only be approved once the requester is satisfied that all required corrections are made. Once the proof is approved, any additional corrections or changes must be paid for by the person requesting the change, except if the manufacturing company made an error. Step 5 – CMPA will send the approved proof and MP badge to the company for mounting using a signature required tracking service. Step 6 – When CMPA receives the completed Departure Memento back from the company, CMPA will perform a Quality Control Inspection and pay the company for the Departure Memento (NOTE: CMPA is the contracting authority with the company doing the work, not CF MP Gp HQ). Step 7 – Once, CMPA is satisfied with the quality of the badge mount and lettering, they will forward it to the final receiving address as indicated in step 3 using Canada Post Signature Tracking Service. The Canada Post tracking number will be emailed to the person who was identified on the CMPA form to receive the Badge Mount. Please note that Canada Post holds packages for 15 days at a local post office and if a package is not picked up within that time, it will be returned to the sender. If this occurs, the member will be responsible for any additional shipping costs, including any fees Canada Post charges to return the package. To avoid these extra costs, please contact [email protected] and advise them to hold off on sending the parcel until the receiver is able to receive packages (e.g. Vacation, travelling, courses etc.). Please also note that Canada Post will only release a parcel requiring a signature to the addressee, a co-habitant, or an authorized representative. A valid government-issued photo ID and, if applicable, a Delivery Card Notice of Letter of Authorization is needed so it is important to ensure that appropriate allowances are made if the recipient is not available to sign for the package in person. Every reasonable measure is taken to protect the badge mount from damage during shipping. If it does arrive damaged, please take photographs of the damage and shipping containers, and contact the CMPA Departure Gift Coordinator immediately. FAQs:Q. "How do I pay for the memento"? A. "If you are not a CMPA Member entitled to a free Departure Memento or have asked for an additional option such as enamel repair, you will receive an invoice via email from the CMPA Kit Shop. Simply click on the Pay Now Button and pay online. The CMPA Departure Memento Coordinator will be immediately informed once payment is made". Q. "Can I send in a cheque or pay in cash"? A. "No, payment must be online". Q. "What if MP HQ will not release my badge"? A. "That is an issue between you and MP HQ, CMPA can play no part, nor will CMPA know if, or why your request was denied. Due to privacy issues CMPA is only advised of approved requests. You need to take this up directly with your Chain of Command or with MP HQ as indicated in the letter of denial you will receive from MP HQ". Q. "Why should I be a CMPA Member"? A. "Please see our website at https://www.cmpa-apmc.org/" Q. "What is the cost to become a CMPA Member"? A. "The cost is $250, but it may be less than that if you meet certain requirements. Contact the CMPA Membership Director at [email protected] with any questions." Q. "How long does it take to get your Departure Memento"? A. "That is an exceedingly tricky question to answer. It could take as little as 6 weeks or much, much longer. It all depends on whether your badge is available and transferred to MP HQ in a timely manner, staffing levels and priority duties. Complications, incomplete or inaccurate information, on your submissions will add to the amount of time it takes. The length of time it takes you to respond to CMPA emails (ensure you provide a contact email that you monitor daily!) and make applicable payments all add to the time it takes. The supplier’s production times average about 3 or 4 days to produce your proof and about 3 or 4 weeks to produce the memento once they receive your badge. Your badge takes about twelve business days in total transit time with Canada Post being shipped back and forth (CF MP Gp HQ to CMPA, CMPA to the supplier, the supplier to CMPA and then finally to you). At CMPA, our 100% volunteer staff work hard to minimize the delay as much as possible by completing each of our parts within the various steps within one or two business days of receiving the information/badge that is needed. Q. "What if my badge was lost or has been destroyed administratively"?
A. "CMPA is pleased to be able to provide you with a replica of your badge laser etched into jade-coloured glass standing plaque, (see below) personalized with your badge number, name and dates of service. Contact the CMPA Departure Memento Coordinator for details."
